This talk focuses on applications of dbar steepest descent method to integrable systems. We take the defocusing NLS equation as an illustrative example to show key technique and steps of the dbar steepest descent method to analyze the asymptotic stability of N-soliton solutions for the defocusing NLS equation under non vanishing background.
