报告摘要 Abstract:

A major research direction in elementary particle physics is building QFT models which should replace the Standard Model, compute their predictions and test them in experiment. When building such models in a self-consistent manner, physicists often run into challenges of purely mathematical nature. In this talk, I will show two examples of these mathematical challenges which arise in the so-called three-Higgs-doublet model. The first one is the quest for classification of finite symmetry groups available in this model; it has been solved a decade ago with the aid of results from finite group theory. The second problem concerns the necessary and sufficient boundedness-from-below conditions for certain rather simple polynomials. It remains unsolved in the general case, but perhaps some progress can be made with the aid of algebraic-geometric tools.
