Abstract： This paper is dedicated to orbital stability of solitary wave solutions of the Kudryashov- Sinelshchikov equation. We show analytically that the stability criterion is satisfied for $0<c<\frac{\alpha}{2}$ or $c>0$ and $\alpha<0$ by means of the idea of the monotonicity of the period function for planar Hamiltonian systems, which gives a new and efficient method to verify the sign of $d''(c)$ without the exact expression of solitary wave solutions.
