报告摘要 Abstract:

The study of approximation of irrational numbers by rational numbers is an important branch of study in Number Theory. In this talk, we present the Hall’s theorem.This theorem states the following: all numbers in R can be expressed by the sum of two numbers with partial quotients in its expansion in continued fractions in 1, 2, 3 or 4. With this result, we prove that the Lagrange spectrum contain the half-line [6, +∞).

Talita Santos de Araujo Marinho is a PhD student at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Brazil, working in the field of dynamical systems. She is currently a visiting scholar at theSchool ofMathematics (Zhuhai), Sun Yat-sen University, where she is completing a six-month academic research collaboration with the Dynamical Systems Group.
